About Katie

Katie Pumphrey has been coaching adult and youth swimmers for nearly 20 years. A competitive swimmer most of her life, Katie found open water swimming after choosing to study painting at the Maryland Institute College of Art over a collegiate swimming career. She continued to train on her own, and with the want of a goal to work towards, she completed her first official open water swim in 2010— the 4.4mile Chesapeake Bay Swim. Always passionate about swimming, that first open water swim lit a fire and she continues to fall more and more in love with the sport of open water swimming ever since. 

Outside the water, Katie is a full-time visual artist. Her large scale paintings and sculptures are deeply connected to swimming, and her experiences in the water continue to drive and greatly influence her work. 

Katie’s major open water swims include the English Channel (2015), around the island of Manhattan (2017), and the Catalina Channel (2018). Those three swims make up the Triple Crown of open water swimming, making Katie the 194th person (73rd woman) in the world to achieve that honor. Katie completed a second English Channel swim in 2022, and is currently working towards a number of big swims, including a second Triple Crown and her 3rd English Channel in 2025.

Katie lives in Baltimore City, Maryland with her husband Joe, and two dogs, Monty & Adja.

    -Modifications to your training plan, as needed

    $150 / month

  • Level 2

    High accountability, guidance, and support! With this level, you will receive:


    -Custom training plan w/ short & long term goals

    -Weekly check-ins (via email or text)

    -2 customized pool workout per week

    -video analysis of stroke technique

    -Modifications to your training plan, as needed

    $200 / month

  • Level 3

    High accountability, highly customized program, face-time with Coach Katie, guidance, and support! With this level, you will receive:


    -Custom training plan w/ short & long term goals

    -Weekly check-ins (via email or text)

    -3-6 customized pool workout per week

    -video analysis of stroke technique

    -1-2 video calls each month to discuss your progress

    -Modifications to your training plan, as needed


    $300 / month

    -10% discount for every 6 months paid in advance
